Religious Christmas Decorations: How to Create a Spiritual Holiday Atmosphere in Your Home

Religious Christmas Decorations:

Christmas is a time of year that is celebrated by people all over the world. For some, it is a time for religious observance, while others simply enjoy the festive atmosphere and traditions.

Some brief history on the Christmas holiday:

Christmas is celebrated on December 25th and is a Christian holiday that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. The New Testament states that Jesus was born to Mary, who was a virgin, in Bethlehem.

The word “Christmas” actually comes from the old English phrase “Cristes maesse” which means “Christ’s mass.”

The first recorded Christmas celebration was in Rome in 336 AD, and it wasn’t until the year 350 that December 25th was declared as the official day to celebrate Christmas.

So, if you want to create a more spiritual atmosphere in your home this Christmas, there are many ways to do so! In this blog post, we will discuss some ideas for religious Christmas decorations that will help you celebrate the holiday season in style.

Nativity Scenes

A nativity scene is a popular choice for Christmas decorations. They are typically made up of a stable, Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, and various animals. You can find nativity scenes in many different sizes and styles.

There are outdoor nativity scenes and indoor nativity scenes, and there are small nativity scenes and big nativity scenes. You can even find nativity scenes that are made out of different materials, such as wood, stone, or ceramic. Just make sure you get the proper material if you do put a nativity scene outside.

If you want something more unique, you can even create your own nativity scene out of clay or other materials. A simple tutorial for making your own nativity (this could be used as a nativity ornament too!) is below:

What you will need:

  1. Air-dry clay

  2. A rolling pin

  3. Cookie cutters

Instructions:

Roll out the clay with a rolling pin until it’s about ½ inch thick. Use the cookie cutters to cut out different shapes. Make sure to press down firmly so that the shapes hold their shape when you lift them up.

Once you have all of your pieces, it’s time to start assembling your nativity scene! You can use glue or wire to attach the pieces. Just make sure that everything is secure before you start handling it. Once you let it completely dry, it is time to display it!

Or, for something unique yet simple to install, check out DoorFoto.com for our nativity scene designs. Our machine washable door wraps go over your door like a fitted bed sheet in just 28 seconds!

Christmas Trees

Another popular decoration for religious Christmas celebrations is the Christmas tree. While there is debate on the origin of the Christmas tree, it is widely believed that they were originally used as pagan symbols of fertility and life.

The Christmas tree became a popular symbol of Christianity during the 16th century. It wasn’t until the 19th century that Christmas trees became widely used in homes in America.

Nowadays, you can find Christmas trees made out of all sorts of materials, such as plastic, metal, or even real wood. You can also find them in all sorts of sizes, from small tabletop trees to large trees that take up an entire room.

No matter what type of Christmas tree you choose, make sure to decorate it with religious-themed decorations, such as crosses, angels, or stars. You can also use lights and garland to give it a more festive look for the holiday season.

Or, if you do not feel like dealing with an actual tree, check out the Christmas tree designs we have at DoorFoto. We suggest this "Christmas Tree Balls" door wrap for its attention to detail on the beautiful ornaments on the tree.

We also think this "Wooden Christmas Decoration" would be a perfect addition to your Christmas decorations. This tree is all lit up and has some presents underneath it, so it is a great symbol of Christmas!

Christmas Lights

Another way to create a spiritual atmosphere in your home is by using Christmas lights. You can use them to decorate the inside or outside of your home.

If you want to decorate the outside of your home, you can string them along the roof, around the windows, or even along the gutters. You can also wrap them around trees or shrubs, or even your outdoor nativity scene! Just make sure you use the proper type of lights so that they don’t damage your home or get ruined in any weather.

If you want to decorate the inside of your home, you can string them along the mantel, in the windows, or even around doorways. You can also wrap them around stair railings or banisters. Around the holidays there are even lights that have Christmas symbols on them too such as angels, stars, or even Santa Claus!

Another gorgeous design we have on DoorFoto.com is this "Sunset Cross." This design is one of our favorites for its versatility. This is a perfect design to use over the Christmas season and it will be sure to brighten up your other decorations. But, it can also be thrown in the wash after the Christmas season, and then be used for other holidays such as Easter!

Religious Christmas Ornaments

One of the most popular ways to decorate for Christmas celebrations is by using ornaments. There are all sorts of ornaments you can use, from traditional glass balls to more modern metal ornaments. You can also find them in all sorts of colors and sizes.

Since ornaments are such a popular decoration for Christmas, there are of course religious Christmas ornaments available over the holiday season. You can find ornaments with religious symbols on them, such as crosses, angels, or stars. You can even find a nativity ornament or other Christian-themed ornaments.

When you are choosing your religious Christmas ornaments, make sure to pick ones that reflect your own personal style. There is no wrong way to decorate with ornaments, so have fun and be creative!

Angels

Angels are another popular decoration for religious Christmas celebrations. Angels are often used to represent the divine and heavenly, and they are also a popular symbol of hope.

There are all sorts of angel decorations available, from small angel figurines to large angel statues. You can even find them in different materials, such as glass, metal, or even wood... meaning you can put them outside too!

One way to use angel decorations is to place them around your Christmas tree or on top of it as a tree topper. You can also use them to decorate your mantel or windowsills.

If you have a nativity scene, you can even use angels to represent the heavenly hosts that appeared to the shepherds on the night of Jesus’ birth.

Crosses

The cross is the most important symbol of Christianity, so it only makes sense that it would be a popular decoration for religious Christmas celebrations.

Crosses can be used in a variety of ways to decorate your home for Christmas. You can hang them on the walls, place them on shelves or mantels, or even use them as door knockers!

If you want to get really creative, you can even use crosses to decorate your Christmas tree. You can hang them from the branches or use them as tree toppers. You can also use smaller crosses as ornaments for your tree.

If you want the cross to be the focal point of your Christmas decorations, grab yourself a DoorFoto. We have multiple styles of crosses such as this "Purple Cross" which is a soft lavender color with flowers, or this "Begin with Christ" DoorFoto that features 3 different patterns on 3 crosses, as well as a more cartoon-like feel.

No matter what style of design you prefer, DoorFoto has something you will love this holiday season!

They also remind us of what Christmas is really about – celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Whether you choose to decorate your home with traditional or secular items, we hope you have a Merry Christmas!
