1. Gasparilla Pirate Festival
The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is the biggest pirate festival in America. It has been celebrated since 1904 to honor the Pirate, Jose Gaspar; who terrorized the Gulf Coast during the 18th century. Pirate costumes are encouraged, so grab yer eye patch and hook for this one. Pirate Party-themed events include a Pirate Ball where ye can dance the night away, multiple parades along Bayshore Blvd, the family-friendly Pirate Invasion of Tampa Bay, and plenty of food and beverages to purchase from vendors that line the streets - who doesn't love a pirate party?
2. Keys to a successful pirate themed party
Make sure that you have some Pirate Booty, Pirate's Punch (made with some Captain Morgan's for the adult party), and Pirate Juice and other pirate party supplies on hand for the kiddos. Also, having Pirate Cookies will be a nice touch to the party. Whether ye be a pirate or an honorary pirate; make sure to dress the part in Pirate Inspired Costumes and Pirate Hats. 4. How to dress like a pirate on the cheap
Don't want to spend money on a costume? We understand. Let's go piratey on the cheap. Three things cannot be forgotten when it comes to dressing like a pirate for a pirate party: A pirate hat, a pirate shirt, and pirate pants.
But how much is it going to cost you? To dress like a pirate on the cheap all you need is some stuff around the house.
For the Pirate hat: Take an old box and cut out 2 eyeholes. Fold one side of the box under itself so that there's only one layer of cardboard. Draw 3 buttons onto this piece of folded cardboard. Glue or tape buttons into place and then attach to your head with a string or elastic band. For a bandana, just take a nice-sized square piece of fabric and tie it around your head! If you have black hair, all black will look like a pirate hat! If you have brown hair, try tying the bandana with one point facing upward.
For Pirate Shirts: All you need is an old white or black T-shirt (or dress shirt if it's white). Using fabric paint, paint on a skull and crossbones. Do this in front of a mirror for the best effect. Pirate shirts are basically just solid-colored shirts with skulls on them; be creative! Use your imagination to make your own Pirate shirt; use different colors, prints, etc…
Pirate Pants: Take any old pair of pants that you don't care about anymore and cut off the ends at an angle. Then roll up the cuffs as high as you'd like—the higher the cuffs, the Pirate-er!
5. What you need to know about pirates and their treasure
The pirate flag is a symbol of piracy. It is also known as the Jolly Roger. The flag usually has a black background with a white skull and crossbones. The flag is often flown by pirates to intimidate their enemies.
Pirate party decorations can include a pirate flag as well. You can buy a pirate flag at most stores that sell decorations or you can make your own. If you make your own pirate flag, be sure to use the correct colors and symbols.
A pirate flag makes a great addition to any pirate party or event. It also makes a great decoration for your home or office. Be sure to fly your pirate flag proudly when celebrating Gasparilla! Arrr
